PASSING BY

The figures in this series were drawn with countless horizontal lines.  This way of drawing in which

the lines are drawn through their bodies lends itself to the movement of the figures passing

through space and creates an ephemeral effect.  This is heightened by the shimmering effect of

the silver wash and the subdued hues.   These works were drawn from photos that I took in one of

Tokyo’s busiest train stations.  This work embodies a sense of the elusiveness of time as people

and memories pass by.
